Mark Sewalson

Managing Partner

As a founding member of Sewalson Milazzo Financial Consulting Group, Mark has a strong desire to help others build, protect and transfer wealth across generations. With a career that spans nearly four decades, he and his team have developed and refined a financial planning process designed to instill confidence in and improve the quality of life of our clients.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. With a business and economics background, he began his investment career as a college intern in 1982. In 1983, after graduating, Mark moved to Kansas City to work for Dean Witter Reynolds. After a series of additional investment firm affiliations, he and business partner Jim Milazzo formed Sewalson Milazzo Financial Consulting Group as an independent registered investment advisory firm in 2022.

Sewalson Milazzo has origins that date back to 2000, when Mark and his two previous partners, along with Sarah Washington, started the consultative-based practice within Wells Fargo Advisors. Jim Milazzo joined the team in 2005. While the people may have changed over the years, the investment philosophy and process have remained constant. To us, the consistency of a steadfast approach lends to a higher probability of investment success.

A leader in his community, Mark understands the importance of volunteering time and experience to improve the lives of others. Since 2004, he has served on the Board of Directors for the City Union Mission, an organization that provides shelter and services to the homeless and underserved population. He also serves on the Board of the Johnson County Old Settlers Association, which organizes and hosts the annual community festival. In recognition of his valuable contributions, he was awarded Wells Fargo’s Volunteer of the Year in greater Kansas City in 2012 for his community involvement.

Mark and his wife of 33 years, Lisa, live in Olathe Kansas. They have two married children, one grandchild and a Boxer named Zoey. In his spare time, Mark loves to spend time with his family. In addition, if he isn’t chasing big game with his bow, kayaking a beautiful lake, or framing a great shot with a camera, he is surely doing something outdoors.
